LA TRONA LEFEVRE, ALTO EXPONENTE DE LA TRADICION NACIONAL
LA TRONA LEFEVRE, ALTO EXPONENTE DE LA TRADICION NACIONAL
Srta. Ramona Emilia Lefevre de la Ossa en el Club Union de Panama 1950
Miss Ramona Emilia Lefevre de la Ossa, better known as TRONA, was the first woman to receive the name "QUEEN OF THE POLLERA" from the Republic of Panama.

TRONA was born in the city of Panama and was educated in the United States and Europe. She was fluent in Spanish, English and French. During the administration of President Wilson (1912-1922) she lived in Washington D.C. Her brother was Head of the Panamanian Mission in D.C. There, she met Franklin Delano Roosevelt who was at the time Assistant Secretary of the Navy.

During her reign as the QUEEN OF THE POLLERA in 1912, the love of her life, the future General Douglas Mc Arthur, came especially to Panama for this very special occasion to be at her side.

Miss Ramona Lefevre was presented to the Court Of St. James at the time Dr. Octovio Mendez Perreira was the Panamanian Minister to England. She represented Panama in 1929 at the SEVILLA world fair exhibition.

Miss Ramona Lefevre was born in Panama City on November 22nd, 1886 in the house of her illustrious parents, Henry Lefevre and Emilia de la Ossa, located at the Plaza della Cathedral. On May 7th l955 she died in the room where she was born. As she wished, she was buried with a beautiful white POLLERA.

Wherever TRONA traveled, she was searching for the origin of the pollera. She worked hard until the PoLLERA got an important place in the history of worldwide national costumes. She made every Panamanian woman proud of her national costume.

Before TRONA started her arduous work, the POLLERA was on the way to extinction and the jewels were melted to recuperate the gold (which was 24kt) so that it could be commercialized into cheaper jewelry.
